Idris Elba Presents Hiatus (All Gone Pete Tong Edit)

Time for a new chapter in Idris Elba's takeover

While you may know and love Idris Elba for his roles in Luther and The Wire, the English mainstay's career wasn't always focused on bright lights and the sliver screen, far from it. Anyone who's familiar with Elba knows that his roots are based firmly in music and recently we've seen him re-ignite his love for DJing with sets all over the world.

DJ Dris, 7 Wallace and Big Driis have all been monikers for the music aficionado but now Idris presents a new project and Hiatus could be his most exiting venture yet.

Having seen the big man play at Creamfields and Snowbombing, it's clear that his passion for house, garage and bass music is one that's educated and broad so his new project looks to channel that knowledge with some weighty productions.

The first offering from the Hiatus project is 'Spectacle', a track that Idris produced in his own studio over a long weekend and the result is a tribal stomper that features Elba's instantly-recognisable snarl backed with fruity riffs and stabby percussion.

For a track of this magnitude, it seems right that the remixer is someone who knows their stuff and Pete Tong knows more than most in this game. The radio pioneer was shown the track when the two met in LA and he's flipped the cut on its head, turning it into a 4/4 house roller.

It's more club-friendly than the original as there's more drive but the festival-feel is still firmly intact. Both of these tracks are primed and ready for the summer season, it's also got us pretty excited as to what Don Idris will bring forward next.

As we continue...

The All Gone Pete Tong Edit of 'Spectacle' by Idris Elba Presents Hiatus will be released on June 24, catch Idris playing at Easten Electrics this summer
