Hundreds hit the streets of Brixton to celebrate David Bowie

Touching scenes took place on a day of great sadness yesterday evening as hundreds of people assembled in Brixton to celebrate the life of hometown hero David Bowie.

The whole community got involved, with people blasting tracks and projecting videos onto adjacent buildings from their windows, and every playlisted establishment in the locality observing a Bowie-only policy.

A PA system was set up in Windrush Square outside the Ritzy cinema, which was emblazoned with the tribute "DAVID BOWIE. OUR BRIXTON BOY. RIP", and began pumping out tracks from Bowie's mammoth discography, with the continuously swelling crowd in attendance singing along passionately.

The batteries of the sound system dying didn't stop the party, with a cappella versions ringing on into the night.

Honor Louise, who organised the event on Facebook, said: "I can't believe that happened. It was perfect, many through the night told me it was what he would have wanted and I haven't stopped crying and singing and loving all evening. Thank you."
