Hieroglyphic Being is a mentor at Chicago’s new electronic music school

Chicago Phonic will open in December

Chicago artist Hieroglyphic Being AKA Jamal Moss is helping open a school for electronic music in his hometown.

Moss will be one of the mentors at Chicago Phonic in West Town, which is founded by owner of Eargasmic Recordings, Daryl Cura.

Moss told RA the center “is about legacy, and forging a path for the next generation of aspiring creatives to have technical access and comprehensive information to be successful in the electronic music medium globally."

The school offers a beginners class in Ableton software and Push 2 midi controllers, and a class on DJ fundamentals with turntables. Both are four-week-long classes that begin next month.

The space is fully equipped with music-making and DJ equipment, meaning enrolled students will have access to studio time, private lectures and one-off tutorials. One-month, three-month and annual memberships are currently available for purchase.

Head to the Chicago Phonic website for more information.
