Google releases mini-documentary about drag queen DJ Jodie Harsh

The house DJ speaks about her involvement with London’s queer nightlfe scene

Google has released an episode of ‘A Search Story’, this time featuring the UK drag scene’s Jodie Harsh.

Both a DJ and producer, Jodie Harsh has been involved in the dance music scene since the early 2000s. The new three-minute documentary from Google explores her involvement with the scene and the return to nightlife post-pandemic.

“I’ve literally always worked in gay clubs my entire adult life. I think I just turned 18, and I just wanted to be within London’s queer club culture,” she says in the episode.

The documentary released on Friday in celebration of Pride Month, which runs through June each year.

Jodie Harsh continue to talk about self-expression, the fluidity of the LGBTQ+ nightlife scene, and the creativity which comes with it. In 2020, the drag queen-come-DJ started a podcast called Life Of The Party.

“Nightlife has been completely taken away from us by a virus, this hasn’t happened in our lifetime before. I need to keep doing what I love which is providing people a good time within a nightlife space, how can I do that from my living room?” she says.

As a result, Life Of The Party started in an effort to bring home the party feeling while nightlife closed its doors in the UK.

Featuring the likes of Annie Mac, Erol Alkan and Fatboy Slim, Jodie Harsh curated the podcast to chat to hosts about clubbing memories, how important nightlife is, and how the pandemic impacted them and their work.

“During the pandemic it’s been amazing to see baby drag queens emerging, learning how to do their makeup and putting it on social media. It’s going to be really interesting seeing them live IRL within a nightclub experience,” Jodie continues in the documentary.
