GIDEÖN announces new EP acting as a love letter to the early days of house music

The summer-ready record features Tobirus Mozelle and Tasty Lopez

GIDEÖN has announced his new EP, ‘Brighter Day’, featuring Tobirus Mozelle and Tasty Lopez via his own imprint HOMO-CENTRIC RECORDS.

The record consists of an original cut plus a deep dub rework and radio edit to boot, acting as GIDEÖN’s response and reply to Cajmere’s original house classic ‘Brighter Days’ featuring Dajae. It forms a love letter to the hope and optimism of the early days of house music, acting as a “postcard from the dark and complex times of today’s dancefloors”.

When the original Cajmere cut blew up in 1992, underground US house was pirate radio centric. In ode to this, the contemporary lyrics from GIDEÖN model such a love letter to the past in order to prove a point and share a message to those “co-opting our music and culture for financial gain”.

Added to the hypnotic organ motif, the lyrics go onto detail the hijacking of global democracy, climate change at the hands of conglomerates and the tech-fuelled capitalist society of modern day. These “realities”, it is articulated, “rose tint the naive optimism of the 90s house sound”.

“I originally penned this track for Tobirus Mozelle, an amazing queer artist from the West Coast of the US who’s featured on a few of excellent releases from the likes of Mark Farina and Homero Espinosa,” GIDEÖN explains. “However, whilst jamming at Tasty Lopez’s studio in North London it became apparent that her voice could form an amazing counterpoint to the male voice, and we recorded some serious takes in a single session.

“I eventually ended up with too many verses that were hot shit, so the vinyl release version of the track is a 10-minute Odyssey taking up the complete side A of the EP.”

The EP marks the third release on GIDEÖN’s imprint HOMO-CENTRIC RECORDS. Launched in September 2022, the label was founded to amplify the queer DNA within house music, featuring likeminded artists whose approach to deep house aligns with that of GIDEÖN’s.
