Gaika's debut album 'Basic Volume' is coming next month on Warp

South London innovator Gaika will release his debut album next month on Warp Records.

Titled ‘Basic Volume’, the full-length project sees Gaika joined by the likes of SOPHIE, Jam City, Dre Skull and more on production.

Talking on the long-awaited debut via a press release Gaika explained, “My thing has always been: be yourself — whatever you are, be that — and people will walk towards it.”

Adding, “I am whatever I say I am. And I want that to apply to all people of colour, all black people. This idea of what we like, make, do and how our art can be defined from outside of us is something I’ll actively try to disrupt.”

‘Basic Volume’ follows up a slew of critically-acclaimed releases and experimental projects from the Brixton artist. From his standout self-released EP’s ‘Machine’ and ‘Security’ through to his previous Warp offerings, Gaika’s distinctive, dark sound and societal ethos is set to be explored in a sprawling, cohesive manner throughout the 15 tracks.

‘Basic Volume’ is out July 27 via Warp Records. Check out the Paco Raterta directed visual for killer cut ‘Crown & Key’ below.
