Fundraiser launched for Michael Serafini after suffering “serious accident”
The Chicago house DJ is in recovery from an injury suffered in August, his family have said
A fundraiser has been launched to support the recovery of Chicago house DJ Michael Serafini after he suffered a “serious accident”, his family have confirmed.
In a GoFundMe launched on Thursday, September 26, Michael’s sister Tina Serafini explained that Michael “suffered a serious accident while moving into his new home back in August.”
She went on to explain that Michael fell eight feet onto concrete, suffering fractured ribs, damage to his spine and lacerations to his skull, which required staples.
“He was rushed to the hospital by ambulance where he spent a week initially, then an overnight emergency room visit, followed by a second week in the hospital to drain blood and fluid from his lungs,” she said.
Michael is now at home where he’s said to be “slowly healing”, but is still yet to endure a lengthy process of “expensive hospital bills, doctors visits, medications, and physical therapy”.
As a resident of smartbar’s Queen! party and founder of Gramaphone Records, Michael Serafini has “dedicated his life to his art,” his sister said. “Now is our turn to pick up our friend, DJ, and small business owner with your support.”
She went on to explain that Michael does not have health insurance, and that any donation is welcome “as any and all financial assistance can help him regain a pre-fall standard of living, and wellbeing”.
The fundraiser has currently collected just under $45,000 of a $50,000 target. “Michael has dedicated his life to his art, his passion for music, his talent behind the decks, and being the best friend, brother, and advocate for a better future for the Chicago music community,” Tina writes.
