French President Emmanuel Macron promotes nuclear arsenal with Justice's 'Genesis'

French President Emmanuel Macron has promoted the country's nuclear arsenal by using a track from Justice.

The official Instagram account of the French Presidency, @elysee, shared a picture of one of France's nuclear warheads following Macron's visit to the Île Longue facility in Corzon on March 3, soundtracked by 'Genesis' — the first track from the French duo's iconic 2007 album 'Cross'.

The post was captioned with a portion of a speech delivered by Macron during his visit, which reads: "Our country has this uncommon weapon that is the nuclear weapon, and it makes it the basis of its security. If we were to use our arsenal, no state, however powerful, could withstand it, and no [state], however vast, would recover."

Instagram users flooded the comments of the post, pointing to the unusual track choice, with one person noting: "I would never have imagined listening to Justice while looking at a submarine containing a nuclear weapon when I was at [their] concert in 2009."

French DJ and production duo GROSSOMODDO wrote under the post: "+1 for the musical choice", while another user tagged Justice, asking: "Are you OK with the use of your music here?"

This isn't the first time Macron has showed a preference for French electronic music. Last year, he launched a campaign to grant French touch UNESCO Cultural Heritage-protected status, similar to the addition of Berlin techno in 2024. 

In December, French touch was officially added to France's intangible cultural heritage (ICH) list, marking the first step in the genre, and its pioneers such as Justice, Daft Punk and Cassius, being recognised by UNESCO.
