France eases restrictions on nightclubs and indoor concerts

Nightclubs and indoor concerts can now open to full capacity in France, following a successful campaign from Prodiss - the French live music association.

Previously, nightclubs and indoor concerts had a 75% capacity limit, as well as a limit on the number of people who may stand.

Despite the relaxation of these limitations, face masks are still advised for indoor concerts, and evidence of vaccination or a negative test is still required for spectators to enter shows and festivals for the time being.

Ambition Live Again, a test concert organised by Prodiss in collaboration with the AP-HP hospital in Paris, took place in May of this year.

According to their website, this was a "test event" that assessed the "risks of transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, responsible for COVID-19, during a large-scale concert in a standing configuration, not distanced, in a closed venue".

"The purpose of this study is to evaluate a specific health protocol for resuming concerts and festivals in a standing configuration, without being able to respect physical distancing".

The concert was held at the Accor Arena which has a capacity of around 20,000 people.

Following the success of this pilot event, restrictions have now been eased.

This occurs as the number of COVID-19 cases continues to climb across Europe. Only last week, the Netherlands went into a three-week lockdown, forcing numerous performances to be rescheduled.
