'Floating' turntable is coming out after raising nearly $500,000 on Kickstarter
Still a while to wait, though
The "world’s first levitating turntable" is all go after smashing its Kickstarter target of $300,000.
Creator MAG-LEV Audio has raised over $450,000 thanks to 606 backers at the time of writing since starting the fundraising campaign last month.
Using patented technology, the turntable’s platter uses magnetic levitation to float and rotates by sensor regulating software.
The designers say they wanted to give vinyl listeners a new way to experience records and that air is the smoothest medium due to the lack of friction.
“By pushing the frontier of audio technology, we were able to integrate the uplifting experience of music into the turntable design itself, bringing the feeling of zero gravity into your living room.
“By joining our love for music with careful integration of technology and high-range audio components, we’ve created a turntable of the future for the medium of the past.”
Other features include an orange light that enhances the levitating effect, a cueing mechanism, speed select and a tonearm that automatically lifts at the end of a record.
The turntable will be available to backers in three different colour schemes, imitation wood, black and gold or black and silver.
It is expected to ship in September 2017.
