First ever download store exclusively for Dubstep and 140 launches

140 Plates - the first ever download store strictly for dubstep and 140 genres - launched on Monday.

It focuses only on the specialist genres, using an ‘intelligent algorithm’ to create a unique user experience.

The platform aims to solve two problems: the current gap for a specialist dubstep/140 download store, and music creators not receiving a fair share of income for their work.

On the issue of fair pay, the platform explains: “We payout more money to music creators and rightsholders by taking less of a cut than any other download store - we take roughly 3x less than other stores. All profits go straight back into the Dubstep/140 scene.”

140 Plates also promises lower track prices than other download stores, at 90p for an MP3 and £1.35 per WAV.

Founder and owner of 140 Plates, Pieter Grauwels- who works with development team sClouds on the platform - tells Mixmag: “Nowadays, digital music releases seem to be forgotten a few weeks after they have dropped and the hype dies quickly. I really don't like that culture.”

“There are so many incredible tracks floating around, some over a decade old, but for the average listener, it's almost impossible to find them. That's one of the biggest reasons we have set up the store, to provide manual curation. We have listened to thousands of dubstep/140 tracks and meticulously categorised them on sub-genre & style whilst ensuring every track is high quality, making these gems easy to find via our ‘explore’ feature."
