Fabric to appeal licensing decision
It's also confirmed that the Fund For Fabric will aim to raise £500,000 to help with legal fees
Fabric will appeal Islington council's decision to revoke the club's licence.
The appeal will be backed by the Night Time Industries Association's Fund For Fabric campaign, which will seek to raise up to £500,000 to help with the club's legal fees.
NTIA Deputy Chair and owner of Proud Gallery in Camden, Alexander Proud, told Mixmag that this was a "critical moment" for UK clubbing and was adamant that fabric would win its appeal. He revealed to us that the club would fight to re-open and confirmed that he would donate £10,000 to the Fund For Fabric.
The NTIA will call on its members as well as the 150,000 people who signed the #SaveFabric petition to donate to the fund.
Proud said the money raised will "keep fabric going until the appeal and make sure that we have the best QC [senior lawyer] in the world working for us and winning this case, which we will do.”
During a passionate phone call with Mixmag, he also added: "fabric is one of the greatest clubs in the world and I don’t want to see it close on my watch, while I’m apparently some kind of influencer in the world of nightclubs."
"I want my kids to go to a brilliant club that’s internationally famous and is on their doorstep. I would willingly tell my kids to go to fabric when they’re of age. If only all clubs were run that well, by people who are passionate and caring and love their customers. I don’t want my kids to not be able to go to clubs like that," he added.
