Fabric boss: "I don't think there's any pleasure that we've reached this point"

The club reopens this weekend

Fabric's co-founder and director Cameron Leslie has revealed he's not totally happy about the circumstances which have allowed the club to reopen.

The doors of the Farringdon venue open again tonight (January 6) after closing in September, but Leslie says he can't feel "any kind of pleasure or relief" after the uncertainty and the introduction of stringent conditions.

ID scanning, stricter searches and improved lighting inside the club will be introduced, three factors leading Leslie to predict this period won't be looked back on with any fondness.

He told BBC Newsbeat: "We're obviously delighted we're going to be re-opening but I don't think we're going to be looking over this particular chapter with any kind of fond memories.

"There was definitely a belief amongst us that we would be able to get the project back open again. But there's been moments when we've been deeply concerned. It would be wrong of me to say otherwise."

Following the deaths of two 18-year-olds who had visited fabric, under 19s will not be allowed inside the club from 8pm on Friday until 8am on Monday and anyone found with or caught trying to buy drugs on-site will be given lifetime bans.

Leslie added he believes both Islington Council and the police wish to "see a thriving fabric", while Superintendent Nick Davis of Islington police said the police will visit on the opening night, but "fabric will get the same sort of visits they always got" once it settles down.

An inquest recently heard that one of the teenagers who died in August suffered cardiac arrest after taking a high amount of MDMA.

The opening weekend continues on January 7, with Craig Richards, Seth Troxler, Ben Sims and Anthony Parasole all playing.
