Exhibition to platform Newcastle’s creative culture set to launch next month
‘Sounds of the North East’ is taking a particular focus on nightlife photography, collaborating with local photographers and music collectives
Following its last exhibition ‘An Appreciation for the North East’, North East England platform Big Beat Manifesto has shared its latest collaborative offering, ‘Sounds of the North East’.
Keen on “platforming the frenetic spirit of Newcastle’s creative culture through the intimate lens of nightlife photography” with work on display from 20 local artists, the exhibition will focus upon the economic and political challenges faced by local artists and event artists, reiterating the importance of homegrown creative communities.

All creative outlets and aspects of nightlife are covered in the exhibition, too: think photography, videography, art and music.
Its launch event is set to take place on October 4 between 5:PM and 1:AM, intending to display a microcosm of the local nightlife. NCA Gallery space is set to be transformed into a nightclub, with music provided by local collectives Shy Bairns, Music Sphere, Profound Sound, Granville Collective and Interstellar Strut.
There’s even a specially-branded beer for the event, in collaboration with local brewery Anarchy Brew.
“I'm so excited to bring together some of the most talented artists and musicians working in the North East, for a first of its kind event in Newcastle,” organiser Conrad Whale says. “I’ve only been able to make this happen because the nightlife community in Newcastle is so welcoming and everyone who I've reached out to has been so excited to get involved.
“I want to build this into a platform to continually support and help artists to grow. I've curated a selection of work by a mix of artists from all different backgrounds to highlight how amazing the music and creative scene is in the North East.”
