Ex-Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante is making another acid house album

Ex-Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante is making a sequel to 2015’s acid house album ‘Trickfinger’.

Known for his work on hits like ‘Suck My Kiss’, ‘Californication’ and ‘Zephyr Song’ with the American rock band, Frusciante doesn't have a guitar in sight on 'Trickfinger II'. Instead it’s six tracks of glitchy acid-washed house and electro.

Part of a project he started 10 years ago that had no intention of being released, Frusciante describes Trickfinger as "the beginning of a new musical life".

"In my opinion, making music with no intention of releasing it is the best thing a musician can do for his own development in this day and age. The Trickfinger LP was made in that mindset, and it was the beginning of a new musical life for me. When I hear it, it sounds like I am opening up doorways to new worlds, and I never have had that feeling listening to music I made for the purpose of releasing it and selling it.”

All the music was recorded live onto a CD burner through a cheap mixer with no overdubs.

Since his last album with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, 2006’s ‘Stadium Arcadium’, Frusciante has released a string of experimental albums including collaborations with The Mars Volta and Speed Dealer Moms.

Considering the Chili Peppers’ penchant for drugs in the early days, we wonder if his inspiration came from a traditional British rave in the halcyon days. Wonder if he feels the same way as our own Harrison Williams does about taking acid when listening to it, though…
