Etch (Gantz remix)
Sketchy sounds you'd expect to hear in close proximity to a deathbed
Etch has made some pretty gully music in the past few years, releasing it on a collection of UK labels pushing some of the rawest bass music around.
Parris' Soundman Chronicles, Dusk and Blackdown's Keysound and Facta and K-Lone's Wisdom Teeth are just three of the imprints, with each release on those showcasing Zak Brashill's love for skippy beats and crispy, low-end basslines.
'Yo Yo Riddim', apparently "conceived whilst Etch was logging death certificates on prescription codeine", is the producer's latest output, forthcoming on new label Bun The Grid, helmed by Etch and Bulu. With Ilk taking care of the accompanying track, 'Yes, Ruff!', Deep Medi affiliate Gantz remixes 'Yo Yo...'.
The Turkish producer is one of the fiercest around when it comes to dubstep, the pure form of the genre that is, responsible for the sinister 'Rising' and last year's devilish 'Volume One', a collaborative album with Kahn and Commodo.
Gantz is at his murderous best on the remix of 'Yo Yo...', shrouding it in a cloud of darkness and completely stripping away the playful mood of the original. Instead, he opts for a creeper using sketchy sounds and bleeps you'd expect to hear in close proximity to a deathbed.
'Yo Yo Riddim' is out on June 3 on BTG
