Essential: Apeiron Crew's ‘Truancy Volume 169’

Club sounds from Copenhagen

Truants' mix series has grown into one of the best in the business, and its latest instalment from Apeiron Crew members Mama Snake, Solid Blake and Smokey stands out as one of our favourite mixes of the year so far.

Opening with a vocal sample about female sexuality layered over the soft twinkling of Aphex Twin’s piano, the pace ramps up quickly as the Danish selectors move through fierce and thumping cuts of electro-tinged techno.

In an interview accompanying the mix, Smokey tells Truants’ Ricardo Villella that the recording was made while the trio got drunk in a friend's bunker, and this tells through the spirited, off-the-cuff energy flowing across the 90 minutes, up to the curveball closing cut. Wait for it.
