Dublin's Yamamori Izakaya to cease DJ events, ending legal dispute with neighbour

The Japanese-themed bar will end its late-night programming from July 19 after reaching a deal with The Hoxton Hotel

Dublin venue Yamamori Izakaya is set to end its late-night programming after a lengthy legal dispute and a new deal with its neighbour, The Hoxton Hotel.

In a joint statement shared via Yamamori Izakaya's Instagram last week (June 26), the two parties confirmed that DJ-led events at the venue will cease from July 19, although "exciting plans for a new venue" will be shared in the coming weeks.

The Japanese-themed restaurant and late-night bar, which has operated from its South Great George's Street home since 1995, found itself in a legal dispute with The Hoxton following its launch in November last year.

In February, The Hoxton sought a High Court injunction against Yamamori Izakaya, claiming that it had received negative reviews and was forced to close 31 of its 129 rooms due to noise levels on its adjoining walls.

The legal challenge spurred protests in the Irish capital, including a "rave" on the street outside of the hotel. Its organiser, DJ Blew, told the Irish Mirror at the time that Yamamori Izakya "keeps a lot of local DJs in business", and is one of the few venues in the Irish capital "where you can find good music five nights a week, that supports local DJs, and where it’s free entry".

"Throughout negotiations, both parties focused on a practical and positive solution that would enable these complementary businesses to thrive side-by-side," the statement continues. "One that would allow Yamamori to host its popular late-night events and allow the hotel to operate without restrictions.
