Drake calls Childish Gambino’s ‘This Is America’ “overrated and over awarded”

Childish Gambino, aka Donald Glover, has revealed that his four-time GRAMMY award winning track had originally been a "Drake diss" earlier this year

Drake has labelled Childish Gambino’s quadruple GRAMMY-awarded track, ‘This is America’, "overrated and over awarded" during the opening night of his “Its all a blur” tour with 21 Savage in Chicago.

During a performance the Canadian artist's 2018 smash hit ‘Headlines’, a news banner travelled across the rim of the raised stage with the message “The overrated and over awarded hit song ‘This Is America’ was originally a Drake diss record”.

During an interview with GQ magazine in April, Childish Gambino, or Donald Glover, - told reporters about how he developed the hit song, which did indeed start out as a Drake diss track.

“To be completely honest” he began. “ ‘This is America - that was all we had was that line. It started as a Drake diss, to be honest, as like a funny way of doing it. But then I was like, this shit sounds kind of hard though. So I was like, let me play with it.”

Glover, who also wrote the award winning cerebral TV series Atlanta , received ample praise for the direction, style and cinematography of his music video for ‘This is America’.

“How do you make people care about anything anymore? There’s just so much shit. You have to have a moment in real time”.

Drake's show also included a light display of swimming sperm, a performance with a hologram of his younger self and a statue of late designer Virgil Abloh.

The musician was hit by a phone whilst performing Ginuwine's 'So Anxious'.
