Dr. Dre is opening a new high school in LA

The school is aiming to offer “multidisciplinary, hands-on learning”

A new high school in Los Angeles is being worked on by Dr Dre and Interscope founder Jimmy Iovine.

The pair have struck a deal with the Los Angeles Unified School District - and the school, called ‘Regional High School #1’ until officially named, is the first project that the new partnership will yield.

124 Students will be able to attend the school at opening in autumn 2022 - with capacity hoping to be increased with time.

A press release reads:

“The school’s curriculum will build on USC Iovine and Young Academy’s groundbreaking approach that combines design, business, and technology with hands-on, real-world learning to help develop young leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs.”

While Iovine spoke about the need type of education available at the new school,

“We want to give the next generation of students access to a proven, revolutionary learning experience that will not only prepare them for the jobs of today, but equip them to reimagine and shape the jobs, technologies and creative enterprises of the future,”

Dr. Dre noted the need to support students: “I think it’s going to be something extremely different. I’m still trying to learn myself and understand the politics and the hurdles that we have to get over to help," he said.

“All we’re here to do is help the kids. We’re here strictly for the kids and trying to give them a future and something promising that maybe wasn’t available before then, so that is our intent.”
