Donald Trump hits back at Snoop Dogg over 'assassination' video
Controversy erupts as politicians weigh in
Snoop Dogg recently lent his talents to Kaytranada’s remix of ‘Lavender’ by BADBADNOTGOOD and the music video has sparked controversy due to its focus on US President Donald Trump.
In the video, Snoop fires a toy gun at a clown character with likeness to Trump, and the 'assassination' depicted has now caused the president to respond on Twitter.
Trump declared: "Can you imagine what the outcry would be if Snoop Dogg, failing career and all, had aimed and fired the gun at President Obama? Jail time!."
Trump was not the only politician to react, with Florida senator Marco Rubio also criticizing Snoop.
He said: "If the wrong person sees that and gets the wrong idea, you could have a real problem. Snoop shouldn't have done that. We've had presidents assassinated before, so anything like that is something people should be really careful about."
Snoop made a comment to Billboard about what his vision behind the video was: "Any time I drop something, I’m trying to fill in a void. I feel like it’s a lot of people making cool records, having fun, partying, but nobody’s dealing with the real issue with this f***ing clown as president, and the sh*t that we dealing with out here, so I wanted to take time out to push pause on a party record and make one of these records for the time being."
