DJs respond to Ten Walls being booked for Circoloco Ibiza

Ten Walls shocked the dance music community last year after making homophobic comments on his personal Facebook page. The Lithuanian producer, real name Marijus Adomaitis, referred to homosexuals as “people of other breed” in the vile rant.

A swift and appropriate response followed his outburst, with major festivals such as Creamfields and Sónar dropping him from their line-ups.

Towards the end of the year he offered a lukewarm apology and premiered a comeback single featuring transgender vocalist Alex Radford through Lithuanian LGBT organisation LGL. Whether this ostensible attempt to make amends was genuine or simply to revive his career is a subject of debate.

Understandably, many people found his words unforgivable, but he embarked on a comeback tour around Europe earlier this year playing small dates in Budapest and Istanbul among other cities. Despite that, it looked unlikely he would return to the big stage.

This has now changed, with one of Ibiza’s biggest and most popular nights, Circoloco booking Ten Walls for its next party at DC10 on July 4, on a bill also featuring Seth Troxler, Solomun, Ellen Allien, Jeremy Underground and more.

It’s the first instance of a party with considerable stature locking him in for a show since the controversy, and many DJs and dance music fans are not happy about it.

Pearson Sound has called for all the other acts on the line-up to pull the show, with Midland, Eats Everything and Soul Clap among the artists who have also spoken out against the booking.
