DJ Assam
Get your summer glow with this beautiful jam
DJ Assam, part of the Lehult crew from Hamburg, makes tunes swelling with delectable pads and sweet-tasting grooves. It's the type of house music that makes you feel like you're on cloud nine. Basically, if his tunes were played at an outdoor party on a baking hot day, you'd have to be the miserable of the miserable to not have a beaming smile on your face.
Funnily enough, taking into account Lehult's hometown, Assam's hazy, daydream tracks are totally befitting of another Hamburg label: Smallville. With little release weight behind him so far (asides from his input on the 'Back Quality' 12" with Johan Kaseta and Liem last year), he might think it's a tad too early to make those sort of comparisons, but his swinging, starlit productions really do boast A-grade standard.
Last year saw him support Boo Williams and Galcher Lustwerk as part of Lehult's showcases at PAL in Hamburg, and later this month he shares a bill with Axel Boman, Leon Vynehall, David August and loads more for a slot at Lux, one of Lisbon's finest clubs. His SoundCloud page is a treasure trove of lush mixes, so definitely head there to hear hours of creamy house and disco blends.
He heads up LHLT005, joining Lucky Charmz, Liem and Johan Kaseta as those to release on the label, with the '8040' EP out on April 23. The wailing vocal is what jumps out at us on the title track, but there's so much more that makes it such a jam. Rubbery synths squiggle, percussion snips hurriedly and an unbelievable amount of flair comes courtesy of rebounding pads brimming with that spring/summer glow.
