Techno producer K-HAND has been named The First Lady of Detroit
The city recognises the techno titans "skills within a male-dominated industry”
Techno titan K-HAND, otherwise known as Kelli Hand, has been officially recognised by the Detroit City Council for her contribution to electronic music, as it names her The First Lady of Detroit.
In a ceremony earlier this week, she was awarded the city’s Testimonial Resolution, a biographical certificate that lists the accomplishments of a person or organization, as reported by RA.
The nod celebrated Hand’s seminal standing in techno, and “her skills within a male-dominated industry.” The certificate cited Hand’s esteemed Acacia Records, alongside her 1994 Warp Records release ‘Global Warning’, as two notable accomplishments.
Kyle Hall and Jay Daniel were also awarded at the ceremony, which took place at the Coleman A. Young Municipal Centre on July 25. The pair both received the Spirit of Detroit Award, acknowledging “outstanding achievements or service to the citizens of Detroit”, with the late Ken Collier receiving a posthumous Testimonial Resolution.
