Demolition work kicks off at the home of Cream

Say goodbye to Nation

Sad times for Cream fans: demolition machinery has moved into its Liverpool home.

Nation, opened in 1992, has had to pave way for a £40 million redevelopment of Wolstenholme Square in the city, meaning a venue that played host to one of the UK's most iconic parties will be nothing but dust.

Demolition work is expected to continue until tomorrow (March 11), making way for the building of 400 apartments by the Elliot Group.

Don't cry too much, though. A new "subterranean music venue" in the square has been promised and it's reckoned the production quality will trump that of Nation.
