Deadmau5: "I get messages saying 'I'm gonna kill you at the show'"
Deadmau5 reveals all about what he experiences online
Deadmau5 has revealed that he often gets death threats and sometimes thinks he could be murdered while performing.
In a recent interview with NME, the mau5trap boss opened up about interacting with his fans on social media, describing how the idolization he experiences can make him uncomfortable at times, but also because some fans can be quite aggressive.
When discussing how freaked out he gets, deadmau5 said that fans even go so far as to hop the barrier at his shows and yell at him, with harsh accusations from fans making him equally uncomfortable.
“I get chicks on Instagram saying that I raped them and that they’re calling their lawyer. I do all my own s**t – Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter – and I see everything, every weird private message from every random psycho. I’m not shielded from anything."
Facing his fans head on is something that is commendable and many of his followers like that about him, but previous death threats have made him nervous.
“I get messages from dudes saying, ‘I’m gonna kill you at the show!’ And I’m like, ‘Well, f**k – this could be it.’”
Comparing his fame to that of Dimebag Darrell, the ex-Pantera guitarist who was murdered during a performance by a crazed fan, deadmau5 admits he's sometimes worried that when he steps on stage, it could be the last time he does it.
“There are always gonna be one or two crazies around, so some shows I’m just thinking, ‘F**k.’ And the security sucks, it’s never good. Those guys are just on their phone, not watching anything, and even if you’re f**kin’ Super Hawkeye McGee, what are you gonna do, hit him with your flashlight? He’s gonna shoot you in the face too.”
