Deadmau5 drops Martin Garrix/Old Macdonald mash up and wins Ultra
The man in the Mau5 mask made waves this weekend. Would you expect anything else?
Deadmau5 stole the show at Ultra Music Festival this weekend.
The man in the Mau5 mask used his Saturday night headline slot to drop a mash up of Martin Garrix's smash EDM single 'Animals' and children's nursey rhyme 'Old MacDonald Had A Farm', setting the big room blogosphere alight.
Always in it for the LOLs, the choice of tune (which is the creation of McMaNGOS) highlights Deadmau5's particular sense of humour and hints at his recent EDM disdain.
Tiësto congratulated the Mau5 for playing 'Animals' via Twitter but soon retracted the compliment after he realised the Canadian artist might be up to tricks. A short beef ensued, with Deadmau5 claiming innocence, asking just how he could have played a record ironically.
While many are calling him a troll, we're digging Deadmau5's tongue-in-cheek approach; sometimes it's easy to forget that humour and dance music go hand-in-hand.
He also used the main stage as a platform to play some refined techno cuts, obviously a nod toward his tespilot alias and his links with Richie Hawtin.
Deadmau5 was filling in for Avicii, who cancelled his Ultra performance after being hospitalised with abdominal pains and a fever.
This wasn't the first time the edit got dropped however. Our man Borgore played this cut in the Lab back in February. Check it.
