Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett reaffirm new Gorillaz album

Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett have confirmed this week that work on a new Gorillaz album is underway.

Although Hewlitt had already hinted at their first LP in five years back in February, Albarn has gone into a little bit more detail in an interview with Rolling Stone.

He said: "I'm in the very early days on a new Gorillaz record. So far, it's really fast, and it's got quite a lot of energy."

The Blur frontman also declared his intention to approach the album in a different style to his work on Alice In Wonderland-inspired musical Wonder.land.

"I've been stuck on piano, somewhere off Broadway, for years now. I want to go somewhere completely opposite of that."

When Hewlett was questioned on future plans for Gorillaz, he told DIY: "That's next year. I'm working on it at the moment, and it's going very well. I'm very excited. I don't want to say too much about it, but I'm at that phase of experimentation.

"What I try not to do when I'm working in this creative period, the cooking of the mess, is go to other peoples' exhibitions and look at other peoples' work. I close my eyes, and don't want to know what anyone else is doing. Doing that has kind of ruined the creative process for me in the past, and I don't want to let that happen again."
