New DIY-focused magazine ARCCA is highlighting grassroots creativity and community

The print publication tells the stories of artists, organisations and creators such as Body Movements, SICARIA and New Horizon Youth Centre

A new community-focused archive and magazine, ARCCA: Build Together, has been launched.

The print publication is a celebration of community and creative talent on a local level, spotlighting under-represented voices and untold stories which contribute to community building.

The magazine will feature and tell the stories of a host of artists, organisations and creators, including Jokkoo Collective, Body Movements, Annie Frost Nicholson, SICARIA, New Horizon Youth Centre, and cover star Khari Lucas.

Put together by Fleur Adderley and Danny Byrne, they aim to “pass on knowledge to the next wave; to offer kindness, to share experiences and to create resilient reference points”, calling ARCCA a “documentary of community in action."

The name ARCCA is based on the meaning of the word arc, defined as, “the story of one character, especially one that is part of a larger story”. This concept is utilised as a lens through which to understand the 46 creators chosen to feature in the publication.

They are described as those who, “do the essential relationship-building work that creates culture in the UK. Not the anaemic, plutocratic vision of culture imagined by our politicians, but that of real humans making something to believe in.”

As part of the magazine sales, ARCCA also offers a community copies pot, where those interested can pay £5 extra for their copy, allowing the distribution of free copies of the magazine in important community spaces such as youth and community centres, care homes and libraries.
