Coachella will remain marijuana-free despite state legalization

California's biggest festival won't be green friendly

Despite the newly minted marijuana legalization that went into effect on January 1 in the state of California, Coachella remains staunch on its anti-marijuana policy for the festival.

"Sorry bro," The festival's personable Q&A site reads. "Marijuana and marijuana products aren’t allowed inside [the festival]. Even in 2018 and beyond. If that changes, we’ll update this answer."

The law allows persons over 21 to smoke marijuana on private properties, which technically would include Coachella's annual home at the Indio Empire Polo Grounds. However, festival promoter Goldenvoice is allowed to determine specificities regarding the event and its grounds.
