Ceiling collapses during DJ set at Boardmasters afterparty
JDJ jokingly promised to “blow the roof off” ahead of her set – and she did just that
A Cornish DJ who promised to “blow the roof off” a venue in Newquay over the weekend when she performed at a Boardmasters afterparty did exactly that, when the ceiling collapsed during her set.
Drum ‘n’ bass artist JDJ, real name Jessica, was performing at live music venue Sailors on Friday, August 8, when a section of the ceiling collapsed at around 3:30AM. No one was harmed.
Emergency services were called to the venue, and everyone inside was evacuated. Contractors told Cornwall Live that repair work had already begun the following morning.

Jessica’s uncle, who was in attendance at the event, told Cornwall Live that she had earlier joked of “blowing the roof off the place”.
A spokesperson for the club also told the paper: “A section of the ceiling collapsed last night as the nightclub was closing. Thankfully, no one was injured, and all guests and team members are safe.”
“The fire brigade attended as a precaution and confirmed the electrics were safe. We are now working with contractors to repair the damaged area.”

The adjoining pub, Sailors Arms, opened as usual following the incident, though the club was forced to cancel a second Boardmasters afterparty due to go ahead on Saturday night.
"Sailors Club will reopen once it is fully safe to do so,” the spokesperson said. “Sailors Arms pub is unaffected and will trade as normal. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding.”
In a new post on Instagram earlier today (August 11), Jessica shared forthcoming show dates, joking: “Let’s see if I can take any more roofs off - sorry Sailors lol.”
