Carl Cox: "You might see something of a reset in Ibiza soon"
The veteran of the White Isle has looked into his crystal ball...
Carl Cox has shared his thoughts on the joys and challenges of breaking new talent in Ibiza.
In a recent interview with Mixmag, Cox said: "All in all, it’s a really difficult situation at the moment and I think we’re approaching a point where you might see something of a reset on the island”.
The DJ, who's back on the island this year for One Night Stand, added: “I’ve been going to Ibiza since 1984 and every year since then. I haven’t missed a single year. When it comes to bringing new talent through, it’s something I’ve always done with my label Intec and also at Space as well. The way I look at it, I think it’s something that should happen. It would be a shame if everyone just booked all the same DJs.”
Amid an atmosphere of change for the island, with long-standing residencies ending and clubs facing pressure from local authorities, many see the time being ripe for a new generation to take over from the ‘old guard’.
Inevitably, though, practical considerations come first, according Cox. “I’ve been around for a long time now, and people know who I am. They know what I can do, and that I can open the doors. It’s difficult when you want to push new talent forward, and it should only be done based on how good the DJs are”.
One Night Stand, presented by Game Over, sees Cox play in Pacha, Amnesia and DC-10, joined by the likes of Adam Beyer, Saoirse, tINI and Enzo Siragusa.
