Carl Cox: “The Arches is still a big loss for Glasgow”
Cox has spoken about the closure of the famed Glasgow nightclub, where he felt “at home”
Carl Cox has spoken about the loss of legendary Glasgow nightclub The Arches in a new interview with BBC Scotland News.
The interview comes ahead of his headline show at Ewan McVicar’s Pavilion Festival, which takes place for the fourth time in Ayrshire this weekend from May 2 - 3.
Speaking to the BBC News, Cox spoke about his fond memories of The Arches, the famed Glasgow institution which shuttered in 2015 after going into administration.

"It’s still a big loss to the city," he said. "People still want to have it back and it meant a lot to everyone that used to go there. It was a great loss, especially as so many people never got to experience it but have heard about it now."
Cox added that he felt "at home" at the venue, where he performed frequently before its closure. "It was always a place that I felt I could be free with my music – I didn't have to be regional, I could play music from across Europe, from America," he said.
"In Scotland I always felt I could be myself. I was very happy to be here and just dive into my record box and play records from all over the world. I still look forward to [playing in Scotland]."

At the end of 2025, Insider revealed that the Argyle Street venue was acquired by Lane7, a chain of bowling, mini golf and games bars with 20 sites across the UK and Europe.
After its closure, The Arches had also operated as a live music venue and bar named Platform, hosting events from the likes of Radioactive Man, Sasha and John Digweed.
"There wouldn't be anyone judging you, looking at you – you were just listening to the music," Cox told the BBC when reminiscing on his shows at The Arches.
