Creamy d'n'b to celebrate 20 years of C.I.A Records
C.I.A Records, the label of drum 'n' bass duo Total Science, has welcomed some of the best in the business to release on it in the 20 years.
The earlier releases were covered extensively by the pair - Jason Greenhalgh and Paul Smith - but they still had enough room to invite DJ Marky & XRS, Drumsound & Bassline Smith and D Kay along for 12"s before they hit 20 releases. Later on, the likes of S.P.Y and Lenzman pitched in with the grimy 'Dark Age' and creamy 'Ice Cold Soul' VIP.
With two decades behind it, the label's celebrating the milestone with the 'CIA 20' LP, a record pulling together some of the drum 'n' bass scene's finest producers and including two DLR reworks of Q-Project's classic 'Champion Sound'. That arrives on the sampler alongside cuts from Total Science and liquid king Calibre.
Calibre's 'Under Bars' follows his 'Dreamz Dub' EP on the label last year and, just as you'd expect from the Northern Irish studio magician, it's smooth as silk. Emotive and wistful, it's another gem to add to the Calibre bank.
The 'CIA 20' LP sampler is out on June 3 via C.I.A Records
