Bloom: Australia's new club in an old underground McDonald's

Ever wanted to party in a disused underground fast food joint decked out with Funktion-One sound?

Maybe it's a desire you didn't know you had, but it's good to know the option's there, right?

Bloom nightclub has taken over a 500-capacity space in central Geelong, the Australian state of Victoria's second city, an hour's drive from Melbourne, which local '90s kids would remember as a dingy McDonald's before it became various clubs with varying levels of success throughout the 2000s.

It peaked in the late 2000s as Club 4Play, where the electro of Modular artists including Van She Tech and The Bang Gang DJs was a fixture.

Now, new management is bringing top shelf house and techno to the city, from which clubbers often trek to Melbourne each weekend, with Alex Stein (pictured), Patrice Bäumel, Tube & Berger, Josh Butler and DJ Seinfeld among the artists playing since it launched in January.

Bloom's music co-director Adam Metwally told Mixmag: "The vision for the club is to provide an outlet for underground music, developing the scene in what is effectively a small country town.

"We set ourselves apart through meticulous attention to detail and a focus on quality above all else."

That attention to detail includes Funktion-One sound in all three rooms (from the team at Full Throttle) a minimalist design aesthetic and world-class artists that give electronic music lovers in Geelong and along the Surf Coast a chance to avoid a brutal train ride or Uber fare home from Melbourne each weekend.
