​BLACK TECHNO MATTERS announce Juneteenth celebration parties across the US

Washington-based collective BLACK TECHNO MATTERS have announced a multi-city party to take place across the US in celebration of Juneteenth.

Each event will take place simultaneously across seven US cities: Washington, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Detroit, New York, Pittsburgh, and Richmond.

The Liber8 US party series will go ahead on Sunday, June 18, coinciding with the US federal holiday Juneteenth which commemorates the freedom of enslaved African Americans in Texas on June 19, 1865.

More than 40 Black artists hailing from the US are due to play across the seven events, including Suzi Analogue, WTCHCRFT, Force Placement, and more. BLACK TECHNO MATTERS announced that the events will be livestreamed throughout the day for those who cannot attend in person.

“We hope Liber8 US will be a statement to the music community and the world that BLACK TECHNO MATTERS and to show what’s possible when black artists organise together,” they said on Instagram.

Line-ups for each event will slowly be revealed over the coming days and weeks leading up to the events, which take place at the likes of Bossa Nova Civic Club, The Jungle Room, and General Lee’s Cocktail House.

“We’ll be sharing the lineups for each city and highlighting all the artists involved,” they explained. “So mark those calendars and spread the word by sharing and tagging a friend.”

Liber8 US’s Detroit event is due to go ahead at Spot Lite featuring both up-and-coming and established artists in an “all-femme line-up”. A panel will also take place in light of the event, focusing on discussions around liberation for Black artists in the birthplace of techno.
