When news of The Lion King remake first broke we weren’t too bothered. Why remake a perfect film? Following the casting announcement, though, we’re on board the hype train.

Donald Glover, aka the man behind one of our favourite albums from the past 12 months as Childish Gambino, and Beyoncé have been locked in for the lead roles of Simba and Nala respectively.

James Earl Jones is reprising his role of Mufasa, while other actors signed up include John Oliver, Eric André, Seth Rogen, Keegan-Michael Key, Alfre Woodard and Billy Eichner.

The film is slated for release on June 19, 2019, and is being directed by Jon Favreau, who helmed The Jungle Book’s live-action remake last year. "It is a director's dream to assemble a talented team like this to bring this classic story to life," he said.
