Ben Klock's PHOTON party at Printworks was an audio-visual masterclass

Marcel Dettmann, Etapp Kyle and Ben Sims joined him

15 performances and 12 weeks after opening its doors, London venue Printworks’ first series culminated last Sunday with the debut of Ben Klock’s spectacular audio-visual experience, PHOTON.

It was a party that showcased how far the Berghain diaspora has spread and Printworks was the perfect location: a UK venue to rival the sparse, industrial spaces of Berlin.

The breathtaking light show at PHOTON took full advantage and, after Dax J pulled out less than half a week before the event, extended sets were the order of the day. Etapp Kyle started slow as the 1,500-capacity space filled and Ben Sims amped up the tempo with rhythmic techno and flickering melodies.

Marcel Dettmann’s set was an aural representation of the 16-acre venue: cold and vast. Klock’s finale was of course the highlight. He moved through two hours of acid techno and squelchy minimal while Dettmann played hype man, getting up close and personal with dancers at the front.
