Beloved Glasgow nightclub The Garage has gone up for sale

Operators of the 1994-opened venue said they hope the next owners will continue its "incredible legacy"

Legendary Glasgow nightclub The Garage has gone up for sale.

The Sauchiehall Street venue, which first opened in 1994 and has since become a beloved fixture in Glasgow’s nightlife scene, has already gauged interest from potential buyers.

According to BBC News, the venue’s owner, Donald MacLeod, is looking to sell The Garage in order to focus on other projects, such as his second venue, Cathouse Club.

MacLeod said that it feels like the "right time to pass the baton", and hopes that the legacy of the "cultural institution" will be continued by the next owners.

"It has been an absolute privilege and honour to own and operate such a well-loved venue, whose history, energy, location and reputation has placed it on the world's stage," he said (via BBC).

The estate agents handling its sale have said that they anticipate "strong interest" from a range of potential new owners, calling it a "truly landmark venue" with an undeniable reputation.

"As I start to focus on developing other areas of my media, promotion and leisure portfolios, this feels like the right time to pass the baton to a new owner, who along with our fantastic management team and staff, will help build on this incredible legacy," MacLeod said.

The Garage first opened in 1994, featuring three rooms – the main room, G2, and The Attic – across four floors, boasting a capacity of up to 1,800 people.

In its 30-year history, the venue has hosted the likes of Kasabian, Biffy Clyro, Marilyn Manson, and Prince, who once appeared at The Garage to perform a surprise set.
