Beloved Chicago house producer DANNN, real name Daniel Brookman, has died, Resident Advisor reports.

Brookman’s death was confirmed to RA on Friday, August 2, by a family member of the late producer. His cause of death is not currently known.

DANNN was known for his fervent output of music, which spanned everything from Chicago house to R&B, and more experimental dance music works in recent years.

He released his debut album ‘Interludes’ in 2013, and would go on to release music on record labels including Trax Couture and Local Action over the years.

On top of his production work, DANNN was also known for working alongside Chicago venue and art centre Hidden Dog, bringing through artists including Hudson Mohawke, Kelela, and fka twigs, according to RA.

DANNN notably took inspiration from video games, often writing about games such as Mega Man Battle Network and The Legend of Zelda on his website.

In recent years, DANNN featured on Ariel Zetina’s acclaimed debut album ‘Cyclorama’, later producing a rework of their collaborative ‘Smooch Track’ which appeared in a remix pack on Local Action.

DANNN’s final album, ‘the slightest dreadful electricity’, was released under his real name, Daniel Brookman, on July 31, featuring 13 tracks. He announced the new album on Instagram the same day.

Ariel Zetina, DJ SWISHA, Nikki Nair, and more paid their respects to the late musician under the final post from DANNN. Ariel Zetina wrote in a tribute on Twitter: “They don’t make a lot of ppl like Dan.”
