Beatport enlists Kompakt, Spinnin and more to categorise sub-genres
It's time to break it down
Beatport has just announced it will be implementing more specific, finely tuned sub-genres in the electronic sector.
Most people's musical taste stem from and are steered by their favorite genre and for quite some time, Beatport users have been asking the platform to introduce deeper style categories to help them find music.
Beatport will be enlisting the help of respected record labels to sort the upcoming organization. Those on deck will be Kompakt, Spinnin, Toolroom and Aus, who will lend imprint members and artists as curators to revamp genre listings.
Currently, one of the most vague and widely used classifications is 'house', which breaks down into electro, tech, deep and progressive but lacks a wide scope including future, bass, acid, big room, disco and many more. Additionally, techno only splits into hardcore and standard techno, leaving much to be explored.
Beatport promises its new sub-genres will be available by the end of this month.
