Barry Can’t Swim announces new album ‘Loner’

Clubby new single 'Different' is out now

Barry Can’t Swim is releasing his second album, ‘Loner’, via Ninja Tune on July 11.

New single ‘Different’ is out now, a stuttering club track which feels on the brink of collapse, with chopped breaks, searing synths, agitated vocals and a heavy, rolling bassline.

It follows on from the release of ‘The Person You’d Like To Be’ at the start of the week, an ominous cut which feels like a therapy session in the midst of a bad trip, featuring snippets of a conversation with a friend.

The 12-track LP marks the follow-up to his 2023 debut ‘When Will We Land?’, an acclaimed release which led to the Scottish producer and DJ earn nominations for the Mercury Prize, Scottish Album of the Year, BRIT Awards and BBC Sound of 2025.

The new album sees the artist reflecting on his newfound fame and place in the industry, challenging the artist and his audience.

“If my first album was a collage of all the music I loved and was inspired by growing up, then this album is the most authentic expression I could offer of myself and my life over the past year,” says Barry Can’t Swim.

Its release coincides with a huge summer of headline shows, including at London’s All Points East, Bristol’s FORWARDS and Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Liverpool.

Barry Can’t Swim is also set to celebrate the announcement with a set in the Mixmag’s The Lab LDN today, March 14.
