Banksy is offering free art to people voting against the Tories

The print is an updated version of his Balloon Girl mural

Banksy is offering a free exclusive art print to anyone who votes against the Conservative party across six South West constituencies in the UK general election this week.

Fans who take a photo of their ballot paper proving they didn’t vote for the Tories will receive a print in the post, which offers a new spin on his Balloon Girl piece, with the balloon now emblazoned with a Union Jack flag.

The eligible constituencies are Bristol North West, Bristol West, North Somerset, Thornbury, Kingswood and Filton.

Critics have labelled Banksy’s offer as illegal due to bribery and voting laws. Speaking to the BBC, an Electoral Commission spokesman said:“Given the risk that someone taking a photo inside a polling station may be in breach of the law, whether intentionally or not, the commission’s advice is against taking any photos inside polling stations.”

The anonymous artist has accompanied the announcement with a lawyer’s note stating: “This print is a souvenir piece of campaign material, it is in no way meant to influence the choices of the electorate, has no monetary value, is for amusement purposes only and is strictly not for resale.”
