Banksy cancels General Election art giveaway following police investigation
The anonymous artist was offering free prints to people voting against the Tories
Banksy has cancelled his plan to give an exclusive art print to people proving they voted against the Conservatives in the UK general election this week.
The anonymous artist announced he would send a print of a new version of his Balloon Girl piece to anyone taking a photo of their ballot paper with a vote against the Tories across six South West constituencies, which led to an investigation being launched by Avon and Somerset Police, who received “a number of complaints”.
An Electoral Commission spokesman told the BBC “the commission’s advice is against taking any photos inside polling stations” due to a possible breach of voting laws.
Banksy has taken the EC’s advice, posting a new statement to his website called ‘Product Recalls’ which you can read below.
