Banksy artwork in South Wales attacked by ‘drunk halfwit’
The new piece cropped up in the Taibach area last week
Banksy's latest artwork was attacked by a ‘drunk halfwit’ who attempted to pull down the anti-pollution piece’s protective screen over the weekend.
The new artwork (dubbed “Seasons Greetings” by the artist via Instagram) appeared in the Taibach area of South Wales last week and is believed to be a response to the town’s industrial history and high pollution levels.
Gary Owens, a local resident, posted about the incident via the Neath Port Talbot Life Facebook page he helms.
"Some drunk halfwit has tried to pull the fencing down and the protection glazing at the Banksy artwork” said Owens. Adding, “The security guard chased him off and police were called.”
Owens ended his post with, “This art is for Port Talbot, Neath and surrounding areas. We do not want it wrecked.”
Back in October, one of Banksy’s most famous pieces, Girl with Balloon, was auctioned off at London auction house Sotheby’s last night for a cool £1.042 million before it immediately self-destructed. Learn more about the incident here and check out Banksy's new spray-painted stencil below.
