Bandcamp Fridays will be returning next month

Running every Friday starting February 4

The Bandcamp Fridays initiative will be back from February 4 and will be extended to at least May.

Launched back in March 2020, the scheme was launched to provide a fee-free way to help support artists who have been impacted by the pandemic.

Waiving their revenue share every Friday will mean that artists thereby gain 100% of the proceeds made.

The online record store has released the statement: "On the first Friday of the month since March of 2020, we’ve waived our revenue share to help support the many artists who have seen their livelihoods disrupted by the pandemic,” the statement read.

“Over the course of 17 days, fans paid artists and labels more than $70 million dollars, helping cover rents, mortgages, groceries, medications, and much more."

They add: "If you’re among the nearly 800,000 fans who participated, thank you. It will likely be several months before live performance revenue returns in full. So we’re going to continue doing Bandcamp Fridays in 2022, on 4 February, 4 March, 1 April, and 6 May.”

In 2020 their CEO, Ethan Diamond, published the statement: "With such a major revenue stream drying up almost entirely, finding ways to continue supporting artists in the coming months is now an urgent priority for anyone who cares about music and the artists who create it."
