Avalon Emerson headlines fundraiser event in Berlin for Oakland fire victims
Along with many artists who developed their sound in the Bay Area
As the effects of the recent Ghost Ship fire tragedy in Oakland sweep across the entire dance music community, event organizers in Berlin are set to put on a fundraiser with the goal of offering support for the victims’ families and everyone involved.
On Friday, December 16, a host of talented artists will take to Musik & Frieden in Berlin, many of whom have spent an extensive amount of time in the Bay Area honing their craft. Avalon Emerson, Karl Meier, Some Ember, Luz, Kenneth Scott, Jamaica Suk, Giovanni, Doc Sleep, Beaner, Alland Byallo, and Alinka all will grace the decks.
Via a press release, the organizers expressed why they feel this event is needed at this time: “We have a responsibility to our communities, the victims, and the survivors to create an event that broadcasts our commitment to caring for and defending our marginalized community and ensuring its movement forward.”
“This benefit is not just about raising money, it is not just about showing how much we love and have lost, it is also a statement of support for and solidarity with a counterculture, inherently precarious, resistant, alternative, and beautiful, that has saved many of our loved ones' lives (and sometimes we feel has saved our own).”
All proceeds from the event will go directly to the Bay Area’s Gray Area Foundation for the Arts Oakland Fire Relief Fund.
Cash donations will also be collected at Zum böhmischen Dorf, Sanderstr. 11, where a public memorial gathering will be held Monday, December 12th from 19:00–21:00.
