Australian nightclub industry expected to decline this year
A shrinkage of 2.9 per cent has been predicted
Figures reported by Yahoo Finance have indicated that the Australian nightclub industry will fall in 2016.
Despite strong growth from 2010 to 2014, the industry started to slump this year with a paltry growth of 0.3 per cent, and is now expected to reduce over the next twelve months with a predicted shrinkage of 2.9 per cent.
The decline is likely a result of the strict lockout laws that have drawn large protests and criticism from public figures such as MP Jenny Leong and Russell Brand and are devastating clubs in Sydney with their stringent control of alcohol consumption and closing times.
A number of venues have been impacted, with popular nightspot Spice Cellar closing down permanently.
A review of the laws is due to take place this month. Let's hope they will be relaxed and the Australian nightclub industry can get back on its feet.
