One arrested, one hospitalised following police raid on New York nightclub

NYPD officers raided Bushwick nightclub Mood Ring during the Brooklyn Parade after-party in the early hours of Monday morning

One person has been hospitalised and another arrested after police raided New York nightclub Mood Ring this weekend, Brooklyn Magazine reports.

New York Police Department (NYPD) officers entered the Bushwick venue at around 12:09AM in the early hours of Monday morning due to reports of a noise complaints.

Mood Ring had been hosting a joint Puerto Rico Day weekend after-party alongside the neighbouring Bossa Nova Civic Club, featuring sets from Payola, Mano Santa, Dmore and Christian Mártir; a flyer posted on Instagram advertising the party billed its run-time from 10:PM to 4:AM.

Footage posted on Twitter by freelance journalist Talia Jane shows several officers making their way through crowds outside the venue, with Jane alleging that "they grabbed, threw people to the ground, specifically femmes. A taser is heard at one point."

NYC-based DJ BOJAQ, who was reportedly inside the venue at the time, told Brooklyn Magazine: “We had no clue it was this crazy until the white shirt cops stormed inside and told the owner came and told me to shut it down."

Mood Ring promoter Lancer Casem told Brooklyn Magazine that the venue has "had noise complaints before," but the NYPD "have never dealt with it like this". She alleges that officers "stormed the dancefloor and kicked everyone out of the club."

“No one was fighting or doing anything wrong. Mood Ring last year was actually crazier because they had a full patio. Something is so off this year… I’m anxious for pride now, to be honest," she told journalist Arielle Lana LeJarde.

Mixmag has contacted representatives for the NYPD and Mood Ring for statements.
