Art School Girlfriend shares celestial new single 'Heaven Hanging Low'

The track is accompanied by a dreamy, spaced-out visualiser

Art School Girlfriend has shared new single 'Heaven Hanging Low', the third track taken from her forthcoming sophomore album 'Soft Landing'.

The full album is set for release on August 4, and each release cements a step forward in the sonic identity of Art School Girlfriend - aka Polly Mackey - taking a shift from more indie spaces towards electronic soundscapes.

Although the album will be her second, following 2020 debut 'Is It Light Where You Are', 'Soft Landing' in many ways models as a true debut. It is a curious body of work, comprising of playful tracks which interlink both sonically and thematically.

'Heaven Hanging Low' is one of such: it opens with a clipped drum machine before progressing into an all-encompassing experience detailing a queer love story.

“These lyrics have a lot of religious imagery, but 'Heaven Hanging Low' is actually a queer love song all about finding that celestial and sublime euphoria in your closer, more domesticated surroundings," Mackey explains.

The single is accompanied by a video directed by Zak Watson. It features drifting landscapes and adds to the poetic nature of Mackey's new artistic direction:
